Chef John

I cook out of a small private kitchen in Cape Town. Most of what I do is for other people's important days — weddings, birthdays, funerals, the long Sunday lunches that turn into dinner. But I also cook regularly at people's homes, prep weekly meals for busy households, and teach cooking classes for anyone who wants to learn what happens behind the stove. I trained in restaurant kitchens before going private, because I wanted the food to feel personal again — fewer covers, more conversation, real care about what lands on the plate. My cooking leans seasonal and ingredient-led: Cape produce, a Cape Malay backbone, and a soft spot for the slow-cooked stuff. If you have a dish from home you want done well, bring it to me. We'll figure it out together.

For me, cooking is the ability to create art through food cooking like my grandma, refined to fine-dining standards.

I bring artistry, training, and care to every course I serve.

I turn tradition into fine-dining art.

Cooking is my way of creating art through food—rooted in the soulful style I learned from my grandma and elevated with fine-dining standards, detail, and presentation.

I’ve refined my skills through home and formal training.

I learned to cook at home and refined my skills at a culinary institution, shaping my technique and discipline so I can deliver consistent, high-level dining experiences.

I lead with respect for ingredients.

My secret in the kitchen is treating food with care and love—respecting every ingredient so the final plate feels honest, thoughtful, and full of flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are my rates for private chef services in South Africa?

I build every menu from scratch, so what you pay depends on the dishes, how many guests, and the kind of service you want. Most of my dinners come to around 1112.50 ZAR, and I'll always work with the budget you have in mind. Send me a message and I'll put together a proposal for your event.

What kind of food do I specialize in?

I cook Chef's special, French, Local and Fusion. I build my menus around ingredients that are in season and bought locally, because that's where the flavor is. And if anyone at your table has a dietary restriction, just tell me and I'll adjust the dishes so no one misses out.

How can you book my private chef services in South Africa?

To book me in South Africa, click the Book Now button on this page and follow the steps. You'll add your event date, guest count, and any dietary restrictions as you go. Once your request comes through, I read it myself and reply with a menu proposal and the dates I have open.

Do I provide private chef services for events or special occasions?

Yes. I regularly cook for Birthday, Family reunion, Bachelor/Bachelorette and Friends gathering. I handle the menu, the timing, and the setup so the meal fits the kind of event you're throwing. Send me your date and I'll check whether I'm free.

Can the menus accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions?

Choose a menu, share your event details, and the Private Chef Manager team will help confirm the experience with the chef.
